Fun Ways for Seniors to Enjoy Summer in Connecticut

Located in the heart of Connecticut, Edgehill offers the perfect summer experience with easy access to vibrant local attractions.

Our beautiful weather and moderate temperatures in Connecticut provide the perfect setting for a variety of summer activities. The coastal Fairfield region of New England serves as the gateway for New York and its neighbors. Stamford and Greenwich greet visitors with stunning mansions, seaside marinas and town beaches.

Not only do we offer a full slate of activities at Edgehill, but our proximity to New York and New Haven opens a world of possibilities. Our Lifestyle Director curates monthly activities calendars so residents enjoy everything from beach trips to local excursions, taking full advantage of the iconic summers in our region.

Here are some of the favorite things that Edgehill residents and others enjoy doing with their friends and family during the summer months.

Spend a day at the beach

With saltwater beaches at the coast and a variety of lakes inland, Connecticut offers plenty of shore-side fun. Whether you prefer swimming, sailing, surfing, or just lounging in the sun with a good book, you can while away the hours on any number of our beautiful beaches.

Among our favorites is Tod’s Point at Greenwich Point Park, one of the most beautiful shorelines in the area. In the summer, we have weekly trips to Greenwich Beach—Tod’s Point for lunch on Fridays. Edgehill residents receive passes to the park and look forward to taking our community bus trip, avoiding the hassle of finding parking. They enjoy walking the trails, relaxing on the beach with a great book, and having lunch by the shore.

Our state boasts 23 swimming areas near the ocean and beside lakes, with eight staffed by lifeguards during the summer.

Take a Walk in the Park and Smell the Botanical Gardens

Here in Stamford, we love taking a leisurely stroll through our beautiful parks—— including Heritage Park at Old Town Hall and Columbus, Kiwanis and Latham parks — as well as Bartlett Arboretum and Gardens. In addition to our peaceful on-campus pollinator gardens, these parks offer blooming flowers, a variety of events and concerts, and plenty of space for a game of catch. They also provide the perfect setting for a picnic lunch as you enjoy the weather and the scenery.

Discover Connecticut’s Best Vineyard Tours and Tastings

Whether you love a bold red, a crisp white, or a sweet dessert wine, Connecticut wineries can really pour it on.

Summer is the perfect time to discover new wines to pair with your fresh local vegetables, seafood and salads. Connecticut is home to a variety of vineyards, so you’re sure to find some favorites.

At Edgehill, our residents are cultured and always seeking new experiences. If you’re looking for a change of scenery from our weekly happy hours, explore the Connecticut Wine Trail. The trail features daily tastings, live music, a wine festival, and other exciting events throughout the state.

Play a Round of Golf

Connecticut offers ideal summer weather for hitting the links and Edgehill has many residents who enjoy the game. Lucky for them that we have Sterling Farms Gold Course just 5 miles from our community. Sterling Farms is an 18-hole public golf course spread over 144 acres of a former dairy farm. This par-72 course, features rolling terrain that winds through picturesque farm buildings and challenging holes, including difficult par 3’s. With various tees, it provides a fair and enjoyable challenge for golfers of all skill levels.

In addition to Sterling Farms Golf Course, you’ll find a number of highly ranked public courses in our state, including The Stanwich Club in Greenwich and its recently redesigned green complexes and new first hole.

Take a Stroll in Nature

The Audubon Center in Greenwich has plenty of walking trails in the 295-acre sanctuary. Take a walk along the lake, stonewalls and old homestead buildings. Visit the Kimberlin Nature Education Center and view the variety of exhibits they have to offer. In particular, there’s a honeybee hive exhibit that is of particular interest to many visitors.

Enjoy Music in the Park

Experience the magic of summertime with live concerts by the water at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park in Greenwich Harbor. With breathtaking views of the harbor and Long Island Sound, the park offers a perfect setting for unforgettable evenings. Enjoy a concert under the stars, surrounded by the serene beauty of the water. The park features a skate park, restrooms and ample parking and is conveniently located near the ferry docks for Island Beach and Great Captain Island. Make this summer memorable with music, stunning vistas and the charm of downtown Greenwich, CT.

Peruse a Farmer’s Market

Can you think of a better way to spend a sunny summer day than browsing colorful fruits, vegetables, flowers and works of art? If you enjoy farmers markets, you’ll find plenty to explore across Connecticut.

In our area, you can enjoy the Stamford Downtown Farmers Market, which offers locally grown produce and flowers, as well as baked goods, cheeses, jams and more.
