Edgehill is commemorating 25 years as Stamford’s premiere continuing care retirement community (CCRC). Residents and associates celebrated over several days last week with fine food, activities and performances, including a concert by The EcleKtics, who have played at Edgehill for the last 25 years.

Thursday evening marked the centerpiece of festivities—a raw bar cocktail reception with a pianist followed by a dinner to impress. Edgehill’s dining team, known for creating world-class dishes, served a meal of Maine lobster and seared tenderloin with lemon panna cotta for dessert, crafted by Executive Chef Anthony Napolitano. Residents then danced into the night to the sounds of the Art Lillard Trio.

From Vision to Reality: The Evolution of Edgehill

Our community opened in 1999 as a joint venture between Stamford Hospital and Marriott Hotels with the vision of providing the full continuum of retirement living and healthcare services along with luxury amenities and a refined lifestyle. It initially offered Independent Living, Assisted Living and a health center. Benchmark Senior Living acquired Edgehill in 2011 and added the Mind & Memory care neighborhood in 2017 as part of an $18 million renovation.

Over the years, Edgehill has consistently earned numerous awards for excellence in senior living, including the highest ranking in Connecticut from U.S. News & World Report. Our community is the only community in the state to earn the publication’s “best” status in all four of its senior living categories—Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care and CCRC.

“A lot of exciting changes have happened in senior living in the last 25 years and Edgehill has always been at the forefront,” says Edgehill Campus Executive Director Chris Cilano, who has been with the community since 2004. “Retirees today are more active and engaged than ever and have high expectations of what senior living should be. I can speak for all of us here when I say we’re excited about what’s next.”

The Heart of Edgehill: Residents’ Impact and Community Spirit

One of the most remarkable aspects of the Edgehill lifestyle continues to be its residents, who bring fascinating life stories and an insatiable curiosity for new experiences. Through the work

of their Social Action Committee, Edgehill residents give their time, treasure and talent to local causes. Of note is the special bond Edgehill shares with the youth at Children’s Learning Center of Fairfield County—Palmer’s Hill, where residents spend time reading to children and celebrating holidays. The community also displays a tremendous outpouring of philanthropy, with residents raising hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years to support Stamford Health’s Bennett Cancer Center and the Alzheimer’s Association.

“There is something special about the residents here, who are eager to share their unique talents and passions,” says resident and Social Action Committee Chairperson Karen Joleson. “We enjoy the life we have at Edgehill but, more importantly, we’re enjoying the contributions we continue to make to our community. It feels good to make a difference and it keeps us young!”
